Preparing for your baby
Perhaps one of the most daunting things you will ever have to go through is preparing for the arrival of a new baby. Preparing for your baby is an essential way to help the process become less frightening and by getting started before your baby arrives, you can feel more confident when labour begins.
Packing for the hospital is one of the first steps to take and teaching your partner well in advance what is needed in your bag can help you to feel at ease. Getting the baby’s room ready is another major step and if you know the baby’s sex, purchasing a cot, wallpaper, feeding equipment and toys can be a little bit easier.
Childproofing the house is also important as babies enjoy nothing more than sticking fingers into plug sockets and putting everything they find into their mouths. Preparing for your baby involves so many different things that it is wise to ask your doctor for some advice and create a list that you can work towards completing before your baby’s arrival.
Clothing is a complex part of the preparation as it involves so many different things, from washable bibs through to night clothes and fitted sheets. Preparing for your baby also involves purchasing the correct feeding bottles, brushes and breast pumps as well as ways to carry and push the baby when out and about.
The best thing to do is to keep a clear head and don’t panic; there is plenty of time to get everything in order and you should also enlist the help of family and friends to ease the burden.
